Exeptional level of 5G interoperability shown by multiple technology vendors

DEKRA hosts first 5GAA InterOp Testing Event

Apr 25, 2019

Recently, international expert organization DEKRA was the host and test session leader of the 5GAA InterOperability Testing Event in Klettwitz, Germany at DEKRA’s Lausitzring racetrack. The event showed the industry’s maturity to support the deployment of C-V2X (cellular vehicle-to-everything) solutions around the world.

At DEKRA’s automotive proving ground in Klettwitz, Germany, one of the largest independent test tracks in the world, 5GAA (5G Automotive Association) members came together to conduct C-V2X interoperability tests. 5GAA is a global, cross-industry organization of companies from the automotive, technology and telecommunication industries, working together to develop end-to-end solutions for future mobility and transportation services.
The InterOp Testfest was organized to assess the interoperability between devices from multiple vendors, researching various situations and application fields. The members found that 96% of the 249 safety test cases communicated successfully on both the European ETSI ITS standards as well as the corresponding IEEE/SAE ITS standards from the USA: an exceptional level of 5G interoperability.
Among the participants were many global companies, such as Qualcomm, Huawei, Harman (Samsung), Commsignia, Savari, Cohda Wireless, Vodafone Automotive, Ford and many others. The week was viewed as highly successful by all participants as it brought together 5GAA’s C-V2X expert community for practical testing. This provided the much needed validation that many C-V2X products are mature and commercially available for the connected and automated ecosystem that already exists today.
Thomas Jäger, DEKRA’s SVP & Head of Technology Technical Service Management for Automotive and Connectivity Testing, welcomed the participants at the Lausitzring racetrack in Klettwitz.
He also provided a presentation and workshop on connected vehicle requirements. Jäger: “DEKRA has been honored to organize and host this important 5GAA event at our unique first class vehicle test center ground. Here in Klettwitz, we are featuring real-life scenarios which are important for connected and automated driving. This fits perfectly to the activities within 5GAA.”
