DEKRA now authorized to certify products according to new Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2

Jun 21, 2022

Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 is a new version of Wi-Fi that optimizes efficiency, coverage, and capacity of wireless networks by supporting multiusers and improving power management. DEKRA laboratories located in Málaga (Spain) and Shenzhen (China) deliver testing and certification services based on the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 certification program.

DEKRA's Wi-Fi® Authorized Test Labs (ATLs) in Málaga, Spain, and Shenzhen, China, have been accredited by Wi-Fi Alliance® to perform certification testing according to Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6™ Release 2 (R2). This new version of Wi-Fi 6 brings new features that enable smoother streaming services and video conferencing, faster uploads and a more reliable gaming experience. In addition, Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 adds power management improvements in the area of power efficiency that benefits enterprise, industrial, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
"We are pleased to extend our certification scope as a Wi-Fi Authorized Test Lab by adding the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2. This update includes notable improvements, especially for high-density wireless networks like the ones used in enterprise, residential and large public environments where multiple IoT devices are connected and stream, share and upload data at the same time. Therefore, it brings promising benefits for the society and advances innovation”, said Thomas Jäger, Senior Vice President and Head of Technology for Technical Service Management of Service Division Product Testing at DEKRA.
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 adds multi-user MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) technology, which enables users a simultaneous access to a wireless network, at the same time avoiding network traffic congestion, improving network performance and reducing latency while using applications with greater uplink capacity, such as video meetings, live streaming and documents uploading.
Power management is also a major improvement in Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2. This version extends the possibilities to control power consumption, like extending the sleep time mode and power saving. These new functionalities benefit smart home, smart city, and Industrial IoT (IIoT) environments. The new functionalities offered by Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 apply to all bands supported by Wi-Fi 6 (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz).
“Nowadays, considering how the society communicates, works and lives, it's highly necessary to be able to use IoT devices whenever, anywhere, all day long and with a seamless connection. The Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 use cases go in that direction. At DEKRA, we support manufacturers by testing and certifying their products according to the new features and specifications of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 in our laboratories located in Málaga (Spain) and in Shenzhen (China)”, said Juan Carlos Mora, Vice President Business Line Connectivity of the Service Division Product Testing at DEKRA.
In addition, DEKRA is an Authorized Test Lab (ATL) for further Wi-Fi Alliance certification programs, such as WPA3, Miracast, Pass Point, Wi-Fi Agile Multiband, Wi-Fi Aware, Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6E, Wi-Fi Data Elements, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Easy Connect and Wi-Fi Easy Mesh, among others.
